A native of Cullowhee, North Carolina, Dr. Martin joined Blue Ridge Orthopedics in 1994. He was salutatorian of his class at Randolph Macon College in Virginia and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed a Residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, as well as a Fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma at the Elvis Presley Trauma Center, also in Memphis. He then served four years in the U.S. Army as Director of Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Trauma at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
Dr. Martin continues to be active in Academic Orthopedics. Recent publications include a chapter on “Tibial Plateau Fractures” in Surgical Treatment of Orthopedic Trauma, published in 2007. He has also published the review article “Acute Soft Tissue Knee Injuries, Femoral Neck Fractures and Delayed Unions” in the February 2007 European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery. He continues to lecture frequently both nationally and internationally. 2007 lectures on various orthopedic sports medicine and trauma topics have been at the Masters Fracture Forum in Dana Point, California, the Current Advances in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Trauma meeting in British Columbia, Canada, and the International Skeletal Trauma Conference in Flims, Switzerland. Additionally, he maintains an active role as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at Clemson University.
Dr. Martin’s Orthopedic interests include Sports medicine and arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, Orthopedic trauma, foot and ankle surgery and total joint replacement. He has a special interest and emphasis on minimally invasive surgery techniques for fracture repair and joint reconstruction.
Dr. Martin is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery with recertification in 2002.
